**MP Board Declared Basic and Standard Maths in 9th and 10th** by the order No. /74/vidyochit/2024, bhopal, dated 20/06/2024 from session 2024-25 and 2025-26 respectively. This letter is issued by MP Board with the reference of School Education Department Old Circular which was ordered on dated 24/08/2024. Now students of class 9th of MP Board Schools can take either Basic Maths and Standard Maths from current Session 2024-25 and class 10th students appeared with any one option from both type of Mathematics. Basic Mathematics is common Subject for students who will take beyond Mathematics streams and Standard Mathematics is useful for students who wants to make their career in Engineering and other science streams.

**Reason for two options available for Mathematics**

**Best of Five System : **

The MP Board’s decision to base results on the top five highest-scoring subjects instead of all six led to initially better-looking results. However, this system had unintended negative consequences. Students started neglecting subjects in which they scored lower, such as English, **Mathematics** or Science. As a result after 10th grade many students hesitated to choose Mathematics or Science in 11th grade. Another adverse effect was the development of a tendency among students to avoid challenging subjects. This trend began to appear detrimental to students’ futures.

**Competition to Other Board**

Considering the need to prepare students in Madhya Pradesh to compete on par with students across the country it became apparent that the “Best of Five System” should be discontinued. Consequently, orders were issued to abolish the “Best of Five System” to address these concerns.

Subject that caused fear among students in the MP Board 10th grade was Mathematics. However, the NEP 2020 has addressed this issue. Now MP Board Declared Basic and Standard Maths in 9th and 10th Options . Mathematics is being divided into two types: **Basic Mathematics **and **Advanced Mathematics**. Basic Mathematics includes concepts that are entirely practical and necessary for everyday life. Advanced Mathematics is designed for students who wish to continue their studies in Mathematics in higher education.

Thus students who want to pursue Mathematics in the 11th grade will choose Advanced Mathematics, while those who want to build their future in other fields like Arts or Commerce can opt for Basic Mathematics. This system aims to eliminate the fear of Mathematics among students. This is the main reason for MP Board Declared Basic and Standard Maths in 9th and 10th.

**Benefit for Basic and Standard Maths **

From the current session 2024-25 students in class 9th of MP Board schools can choose either Basic Mathematics or Standard Mathematics. In the following session class 10th students can appear for either of the two options. Basic Mathematics will be the common subject for students who do not plan to pursue Mathematics in their future studies while Standard Mathematics will be beneficial for students aiming for a career in Engineering and other science-related fields.
